Bullseye Dreams: Allen Target Shooters Take Aim at National Glory

And for once, it’s not just a feel-good movie plot — it's the very real narrative of the Allen Target Shooters (ATS) from Allen Community College, who recently made their presence felt, quite significantly, at the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) National Three-Position Air Rifle Championship.

Held in the storied grounds of Camp Perry, Ohio, from June 21-23, this wasn't just any competition. No, this was the culmination of countless hours, focused breaths, and perhaps, just a little bit of nervous energy. But they had earned their spot, having already impressed at the state level. They were ready, or so they hoped, to face off against the absolute best the nation had to offer.

First up, in the Sporter Division, the civilian team from Allen Community College certainly didn’t disappoint. Finishing a commendable 16th nationally, these young marksmen demonstrated a caliber of precision that frankly, many could only dream of. The team was anchored by Cody Essington, Ryan Essington, Eli Lutes, and Hannah Essington. And you know, a huge tip of the hat must go to their coach, David Essington, whose guidance clearly made all the difference.

Individually, the standout performances were truly something to behold. Cody Essington, for example, clinched an astonishing 12th place in the entire nation — think about that for a moment! And his teammate, Ryan Essington, wasn't far behind, securing a spot in the top 50. These are not small feats; these are testaments to incredible discipline and skill.

They finished 23rd nationally in the Sporter Division, a brilliant achievement in its own right. This squad comprised Landon Eslick, Logan Miller, Cole Smith, and Luke Miller. And yes, David Essington was also at the helm for this dedicated group, guiding them every step of the way.

Landon Eslick from the JROTC team also made his mark, securing a top-50 individual finish. These results, collectively, paint a picture of relentless effort and genuine talent blossoming under expert tutelage.
