BRS Leaders Hold Talk with Telangana Governor After Assembly Suspension

On Wednesday, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), K.T. Rama Rao, together with over twenty MLAs and several MLCs, paid a visit to Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at the Lok Bhawan. The meeting came straight after the Assembly speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, suspended the lawmakers for the remainder of the monsoon session, accusing them of disrupting proceedings and shouting slogans.

The suspension itself was a flashpoint. It followed a heated episode when BRS leader K.T. Rao (KTR) moved an adjournment motion demanding an urgent debate on what the party described as a deteriorating law‑and‑order scenario in the state, including alleged threats against the opposition leader K. Chandrashekar Rao. The Speaker’s decision to bar the BRS members seemed to inflame an already tense atmosphere.

In the wake of the governor’s audience, reactions poured in from across the political spectrum. BJP MLA Venkata Ramana Reddy condemned the move, calling the suspension “unfair” and criticizing both the ruling Congress and opposition parties for “attacking the Leader of the Opposition at his residence” and “man‑handling a woman.” He suggested that such actions were counter‑productive, regardless of which side carried them out.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Mallu Ravi went a step further, accusing KTR of making a derogatory remark about Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Ravi announced his intent to file a complaint, asserting that the BRS was deliberately trying to paint Telangana as a law‑and‑order crisis to invite President’s rule – a claim he dismissed as “a day‑dream of BRS leaders.” He appealed to the courts to restrain KTR from repeating any such statements.

The list of suspended legislators reads like a roll call: K.T. Rama Rao, deputy leader in the House T. Harish Rao, and MLAs Anil Jadhav, G. Jagdish Reddy, Kaushik Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Kova Lakshmi, Manik Rao, Chinta Prabhakar, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Prashanth Reddy, Marri Rajshekhar Reddy, Palla Rajeshwari Reddy, P. Sabita Indira Reddy, Kalvakuntla Sanjay, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, D. Sudheer Reddy, Vakiti Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, Kaleru Venkatesh, Vijeyudu and K.P. Vivekananda. Their absence will be felt for the rest of the session.

As the political drama unfolds, observers note that the BRS’s aggressive tactics, the Governor’s role as a mediator, and the sharp rebukes from both BJP and Congress could reshape the power dynamics in Telangana ahead of the upcoming elections.
