As Sagar was being transported from a court appearance in Roorkee back to Roshnabad jail, his police escort, comprising a head constable and two constables, suddenly found themselves under fire. Near the Gang Nahar bridge, two assailants on a motorcycle brazenly intercepted the police van. One minute it's a routine transfer, the next, shots are fired, and a blinding chili powder-like substance is flung, all in a desperate, chaotic attempt to free or harm the prisoner.

It was pure mayhem for a moment. The police vehicle's driver, caught in the unexpected chaos, was injured by flying glass, a testament to the sudden violence of the ambush. The attackers, bold as brass, then sped off, leaving a shaken police team and a damaged vehicle in their wake.
