Boston's Mid-September Delight: A Glimpse into the Week's Weather with Dave Epstein

Well, good morning everyone! It’s Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, and I tell you what, if you’re anything like me, you’re stepping outside this morning and just breathing in that crisp, glorious air. We’ve got a real treat ahead for Boston today, a quintessential mid-September day that reminds us exactly why we love this time of year so much.

Let’s dive right in, shall we? This morning, the sun is just absolutely brilliant, bathing the city in a golden glow. Temperatures are starting off on the cool side, probably in the comfortable mid-50s for most of us, maybe even a touch cooler in some of the outlying areas. But don't let that fool you; this is a day that's going to warm up beautifully. We've got a really nice ridge of high pressure settling in, and that means lots of sunshine, folks. Pure, unadulterated sunshine.

As we move through the afternoon, expect those temperatures to climb steadily. We're looking at a lovely high pushing right around 70 degrees, perhaps even kissing 72 or 73 in a few spots inland. The air will feel dry and comfortable, a real breath of fresh air after some of those more humid stretches we’ve had earlier in the month. Winds will be light, generally out of the west-northwest, just a gentle breeze to rustle the leaves, which, by the way, are starting to show the tiniest hint of change up north, but here in the city, we’re still mostly verdant green.

Tonight looks equally pleasant, a perfect evening for a walk or perhaps dining al fresco if you’re feeling it. Temperatures will dip back into the low to mid-50s again, so you might want a light jacket if you're out past sunset. Expect mostly clear skies, just fantastic conditions for stargazing, actually. It’s one of those nights where you can really feel the cool air settling in, a subtle nod to autumn, even if the daytime is still holding onto summer's warmth.

Now, looking ahead a bit, Wednesday continues this trend of beautiful weather. More sunshine, similar temperatures, another gorgeous day to get out and enjoy everything Boston has to offer. But, and there's always a 'but' in weather, isn't there? By Thursday, we'll start to see a very subtle shift. The high pressure begins to drift a little further offshore, and we might see a few more clouds enter the picture. Nothing dramatic, mind you, but perhaps a touch more humidity creeping back in, and highs still comfortable, likely in the upper 60s to low 70s.

The end of the week and into the weekend is where things get a bit more interesting. A slow-moving frontal system is currently forecast to approach our region, which could bring an increased chance of showers by late Friday and into Saturday. It’s a little early to pinpoint exact timing or intensity, so don't cancel those weekend plans just yet! We'll be keeping a very close eye on it, of course, and I'll have all the updates for you tomorrow.
