BJP Leader Ravneet Bittu Claims Attack Ahead of Anti‑Drug Yatra in Punjab

On Friday, BJP MLA Ravneet Singh Bittu told reporters that his convoy was suddenly pelted with stones and objects while he was driving to Pathankot for the kick‑off of the party’s “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra.” He claimed three men were nabbed by his security, and—according to him—those men have ties to the Aam Aadmi Party.

“It feels like someone wants to silence us,” Bittu said, pausing before adding that local AAP MLA Sherry supposedly dispatched the thugs to stop him from taking part in the march. He warned that such incidents strike at the heart of democracy, and, in a tone that hinted at frustration, he said any harm to him would be a direct failure of the state government and the Punjab DGP.

He urged the Punjab administration to open an immediate inquiry, insisting that the safety of every political worker and leader must be guaranteed—especially with a campaign that will criss‑cross the state over the next two weeks.

The “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra” is slated to cover roughly 4,000 kilometres, touching all 117 assembly seats before wrapping up in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to address a rally. National BJP President Nitin Nabin will flag off the journey from Pathankot, describing the mission as a “movement against drug abuse” that aims to rescue Punjab’s youth from the grip of narcotics.

Speaking to ANI, Nabin painted a vivid picture of a generation of hardworking farming families being pushed into addiction, saying, “Our youth deserve better than a life of dependence.” He also accused rival parties of turning the drug issue into a political cudgel, profiting from it once in power. “We’re walking alongside families who have lost loved ones, because they understand the pain,” he added, echoing the Prime Minister’s August 2 anti‑drug drive.

While the BJP’s anti‑drug narrative gains momentum, the alleged attack on Bittu adds a fresh layer of tension to Punjab’s already charged political atmosphere. Observers will be watching closely how the investigation unfolds and whether the Yatra can stay on course without further disruption.
