BJP Claims NSUI Used Fake ID Cards in Delhi University Student Union Poll

Sidharth Yadav alleges Rahul Gandhi's student wing caught in vote‑fraud scandal as counting continues

BJP national media co‑convener Sidharth Yadav says a NSUI activist was seized with a counterfeit university ID during the DUSU elections, sparking fresh accusations of malpractice.

In a video posted on X, BJP’s national media co‑convener Sidharth Yadav let the cat out of the bag – at least according to him – that a member of Rahul Gandhi’s student wing, the NSUI, was nabbed trying to vote with a fake university ID during the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections. Yadav claims the student, when confronted, admitted that the practice was not an isolated incident, but rather a “routine” among many NSUI cadres.

He went on to argue that this episode explains why Rahul Gandhi is so quick to point fingers at “vote theft” elsewhere: “He sees theft everywhere because it’s happening in his own party and student organisation on a massive scale.” The BJP veteran added that the alleged misconduct taints the very spirit of a youth‑driven poll, calling for Gandhi to apologise to the nation.

Meanwhile, the vote‑counting process is in full swing, with heightened security measures across the campus. The DUSU Returning Officer, Rajesh Singh, told ANI that the counting arrangements are “absolutely fool‑proof.” He said the Delhi Police are working hand‑in‑hand with university officials, the sealed EVMs have been moved from the strong room, and eight counting tables are set up to speed up the process. Results are expected between noon and one p.m.

So far, the numbers paint a mixed picture. For the top post of President, ABVP’s Yash Dabas leads with 1,305 votes, edging out NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena, who has 1,191. In the Vice‑President race, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen is ahead with 1,391 votes, while ABVP’s Ishu Maurya trails at 865 and NSUI’s Virr Chatrath lags far behind with 242.

The Secretary slot also favours the ABVP; Riya Chhawdi has amassed 909 votes compared to NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary’s 450. And for Joint Secretary, independent Vishesh Yadav leads with 996, followed closely by ABVP’s Lakshay Raj Singh at 938, while NSUI’s Gopal Chaudhary sits at 698.

ABVP’s DUSU vice‑presidential hopeful Ishu Maurya, speaking with confidence, said the student body’s higher turnout this year gives his camp a clear edge. “We are certain of a decisive 4‑0 victory,” he declared, adding that the organization’s faith in its candidates remains unshaken.

Overall, twenty candidates from major student bodies – ABVP, NSUI, the AISA‑SFI alliance and several independents – contested the elections. As the counting continues under tight watch, the controversy over alleged fake‑ID voting adds another layer of drama to what is already one of Delhi’s most closely watched campus battles.
