Bergen County's Star-Spangled Celebration: A Weather-Induced Twist for July 4th Festivities!

Ah, the Fourth of July! For many of us in Bergen County, it’s not just a holiday; it’s the day for dazzling fireworks, delicious food, and gathering with loved ones to celebrate our nation’s independence. And, naturally, everyone looks forward to the annual Star-Spangled Spectacular over Overpeck Lake. It's truly a highlight of the summer, creating those cherished memories year after year.

However, Mother Nature, as she often does, has decided to throw a bit of a curveball into our plans for this year. Due to a rather uncooperative weather forecast predicting severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds, the magnificent fireworks display for the Bergen County Star-Spangled Spectacular has been officially postponed. Yes, you heard that right – the grand pyrotechnics won't be happening on July 4th itself.

It's a bummer, I know, but ultimately it's about everyone's safety, which County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of County Commissioners have rightly prioritized. They made the tough but necessary call to move the fireworks to Friday, July 5th, 2024. The show, promising to be as spectacular as ever, will now light up the skies over Overpeck Lake in Ridgefield Park starting around 9:30 PM on the 5th.

Now, don't despair too much about your July 4th plans! While the fireworks are on a rain check, the rest of the festivities are still very much on for Thursday. That means you can still head over to Overpeck Park starting at 3 PM for all the fun: the carnival rides will be spinning, a fantastic array of food trucks will be dishing out tasty treats, and live music will kick off at 6 PM to keep the energy high. It's still a full day of celebration, just without the grand finale until the next evening.

So, essentially, it’s a two-day celebration this year! You get to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, delicious eats, and lively tunes on the Fourth, and then come back on the Fifth for the main event – those breathtaking fireworks. It’s free admission, as always, making it an accessible and wonderful way for the whole community to come together. Just make sure to adjust your calendars and plan accordingly to catch both parts of this year’s Star-Spangled Spectacular!
