Bergen County Bids Farewell: Fair Lawn Officer Christopher Congilose Dies Suddenly at 46

The air in Fair Lawn, and really across Bergen County, feels a little heavier this week, doesn't it? It’s with a profound sense of sorrow, a truly heartbreaking realization, that we acknowledge the sudden passing of one of our own, Officer Christopher Daniel Congilose. He was just 46 years old.

Officer Congilose, a name many knew and respected, died unexpectedly this past Tuesday, March 26. He wasn't just a police officer; he was a pillar in our community, someone who had dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service. Before joining the Fair Lawn Police Department back in 2004 – think about that, two decades of service right here – he proudly served our nation in the U.S. Air Force. That’s the kind of commitment, the kind of unwavering dedication, that really defines a person, wouldn't you say?

His passing leaves an immense void, especially for his cherished family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Christine, and their three wonderful children, Alexa, Andrew, and Ava. And of course, his parents, Daniel and Joan Congilose, along with his siblings, Jennifer and Daniel. It’s hard to imagine the depth of their grief right now; our hearts truly go out to them.

The news, as you can imagine, hit the Fair Lawn PBA Local #67 particularly hard. They were the ones who shared the difficult announcement, asking everyone to keep Chris and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly tough time. It’s moments like these that truly show the tight-knit bond within our police force and the wider community they serve.

For those wishing to pay their respects and offer condolences, a visitation is scheduled for this Friday, March 29, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, located right here in Fair Lawn at 13-17 S. Parum Ave. A Funeral Mass, a chance to truly celebrate his life and legacy, will then take place on Saturday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation in Paramus. Following the service, Officer Congilose will be laid to rest at the George Washington Memorial Park, also in Paramus.

It's a stark reminder, isn't it, of how precious life is and the sacrifices our first responders make every single day. Officer Congilose’s memory will undoubtedly live on, not just within the Fair Lawn Police Department, but in the hearts of everyone he touched throughout his years of service. He will be deeply, deeply missed.
