In a surprise that delighted locals, Bengaluru secured the 17th spot on Time Out’s 2026 list of the world’s best nightlife cities. It isn’t just a footnote – it’s the only Indian metropolis that cracked the global top‑20.

The survey, which gathered opinions from more than 24,000 residents across 150 cities, praised Bengaluru for a strong sense of community (82 % rating) and solid quality (71 %). Affordability lagged a bit, hovering at 54 %, but the overall vibe clearly resonated with night‑owls.

Bangkok took the crown, with other heavy‑hitters like Berlin, New York, Melbourne and São Paulo rounding out the upper echelons. Yet Bengaluru stood proudly ahead of home‑grown rivals Mumbai and New Delhi, showing that the city’s after‑dark culture is finally getting its due.

What do Bengaluru’s night‑goers actually enjoy? About 55 % of respondents said they love the city’s street life after dusk, while half pointed to casual bars as their go‑to hangout. Traditional hotspots such as Indiranagar, MG Road and Koramangala remain bustling, but newer zones like Halasuru, Rajajinagar and Whitefield are fast becoming the next frontier.

Fresh venues are sprouting up everywhere – think Bar Dabbal’s laid‑back vibe, Dolly & Gala’s cocktail twists, Bar Cameo’s jazzy evenings, and The Middle Room’s intimate live‑music sessions. The surge in craft microbreweries and late‑night food joints only adds to the mix.

Industry voices, like Ananth Narayan of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) Bengaluru chapter, argue that the city deserves even more flexibility. He’s urging the government to allow 24‑hour operations, extend liquor service to 2:30 am, support late‑night food stalls and streamline approvals through a single‑window system.

All these moves could push Bengaluru higher up the nightlife ladder, cementing its reputation as a go‑to destination for anyone who loves a good evening out. For now, though, the city can bask in the glow of being India’s lone torch‑bearer on a prestigious global list.
