PORTLAND, Ore. — Temperatures remain in the 20s in the Portland area, but they won’t drop overnight. We’ve seen a few small rises in temperatures around Eugene, which is finally up around 32 degrees. But light freezing rain will continue in the Portland area until the morning hours. Salem should warm above freezing in the early morning, and the ice will begin to melt from south to north.
For the Metro area, the southern and western areas will thaw first, areas near the Gorge will likely stay icy until late Wednesday afternoon. Winds will be gusty but out of the south and southwest Wednesday afternoon. The Cascades will get over a foot of snow and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect there.
East winds return to the valleys Thursday, but the air won’t be cold enough for frozen precipitation. But it will be a chilly day. Friday finally brings a break from rain and sub freezing temperatures. Stay safe. Have a great Wednesday. for Portland and Salem. At noon today, freezing rain is being reported in Eugene as the storm pushes inland. Freezing rain could arrive into Portland as early as 2:00 p.m. this afternoon as the Ice Storm Warning begins. Roads will quickly become icy, so best to try to plan to be off the roads ASAP. Icing on surfaces of 1/4" or more is expected through late evening.
Ice accumulations in parts of the north valley, especially on the east side, where freezing temps will linger, could reach closer to an inch through noon Wednesday. Freezing rain continues into the early morning hours Wednesday for much, but not all of the north valley. Areas in the east wind flow of the Gorge will gradually see warming during the day tomorrow, ending the storm.
Ice accumulations may reach an inch in some hours, causing power outages and downed trees. Mild and rainy weather sets in for the rest of the week. Lows will stay above freezing and highs will be in the 40s with rain at times along the coast and the I 5 corridor. #Salem is already seeing the freezing rain move in.
This will be moving over the metro area by 3:30 pm. #icestorm #pdxwx #kgwweather #kgw pic.twitter.com/ijJgjsRAYl ~ Meteorologist Rod Hill, connect with me on FB RELATED: Watch live news and on demand content with the free KGW+ app Extended weather reports and more on KGW+: You asked for more access to local news, weather and more at home, and we listened!
