Prepare for a scorching day, Bay Area! Thursday is set to deliver the most intense heat of the year for many inland communities, with temperatures soaring well into the triple digits. A robust ridge of high pressure combined with persistent offshore winds is creating a sweltering environment, pushing the mercury to unprecedented levels for 2024.

Residents in the heart of the East Bay and North Bay valleys are particularly urged to take extreme precautions.

Cities like Antioch, Brentwood, Livermore, Concord, Fairfield, and Vacaville are expected to bake under an unforgiving sun, with forecasts predicting highs between a blistering 100 and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Further north, the picturesque valleys of Santa Rosa and Napa are also gearing up for significant heat, anticipating temperatures to hover between 95 and 100 degrees.

In stark contrast, the immediate coastal areas will once again serve as a cool refuge.

Thanks to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean, temperatures along the coast are projected to remain in the comfortable 60s and 70s, offering a stark reminder of the Bay Area's diverse microclimates.

To underscore the severity of this heat event, a Heat Advisory has been issued for these affected inland regions.

This advisory will be in effect from Thursday at 11:00 AM, extending through Friday at 8:00 PM, signaling a period of prolonged, dangerous heat. While Thursday marks the peak of this heatwave, Friday will only offer a marginal reprieve, with temperatures dipping by a modest 2 to 5 degrees. The true cooling trend will commence over the weekend, gradually bringing temperatures back to more seasonal averages by Sunday and Monday.
