A wave of profound grief swept across Guwahati on Thursday as thousands converged to pay their last respects to Anirban Konwar, the young son of prominent BJP leader Jitu Konwar. The untimely passing of the 21-year-old in Pune left the state in shock, leading to an overwhelming public outpouring of emotion that culminated in chaotic scenes at the airport and outside his family residence.

Anirban’s body arrived at Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport via a special flight, met by an unprecedented multitude of mourners.

Despite heavy security arrangements, the sheer number of grieving citizens, desperate to catch a glimpse of the departed, overwhelmed the police. The emotionally charged atmosphere quickly escalated into scuffles as authorities struggled to manage the surging crowd, highlighting the deep affection and sorrow felt across the community.

The ambulance carrying Anirban's mortal remains faced significant delays, trapped for over an hour amidst the sea of people.

Each moment added to the palpable tension and heartbreak, as dignitaries, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, several state ministers, MLAs, and MPs, were also present to offer their condolences. Their presence underscored the gravity of the loss, not just for the Konwar family, but for the wider political and social fabric of Assam.

Following the emotional ordeal at the airport, the procession slowly made its way to Anirban's residence in Kahilipara.

There, another massive crowd had gathered, waiting patiently to pay their tributes. The home became a focal point of shared grief, with friends, family, and well-wishers uniting in their sorrow, providing comfort to the bereaved family.

Anirban, who was pursuing his studies in Pune, was known for his bright future and amiable nature, making his sudden demise even more tragic.

The final rites are scheduled to be performed on Friday in his native village of Borhola in Jorhat district, where another large gathering is anticipated to bid him a final farewell. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, a stark reminder of life's fragility and the collective mourning of a state.
