ASML Breaks Ground on Massive BIC North Campus in Eindhoven

On September 8, ASML officially kicked off construction of what it calls the Brainport Industries Campus North – or BIC North – in the high‑tech heart of Eindhoven. Spread over roughly 350,000 square metres when finished, the site is meant to become a one‑stop shop for everything from wafer‑stepper manufacturing to supply‑chain logistics.

The rollout will happen in stages. The initial phase, slated for completion around 2029, is designed to house about 3,000 employees. The goal is simple: move faster without sacrificing the razor‑sharp precision that ASML’s TWINSCAN systems demand. The concept borrows tricks from automotive and aerospace manufacturing, where conveyor‑like precision and just‑in‑time delivery are the norm.

“The global surge in semiconductor demand calls for continuous investment,” said Christophe Fouquet, ASML’s President and CEO. “BIC North gives us the space and flexibility we need to keep innovating for our customers worldwide.” The campus will not replace ASML’s existing sites; instead, it will complement them, adding a third pillar to the company’s Brainport footprint alongside the headquarters in Veldhoven and the current industrial campus there.

In the long run, the entire development could support up to 20,000 workplaces – a figure that reflects both the scale of ASML’s ambitions and the critical role its lithography machines play in today’s chip supply chain. Whether the final headcount hits that ceiling will depend on how the market evolves, but the infrastructure is being laid now to scale quickly if needed.

Beyond bricks and beams, the project is also a diplomatic and regional effort. Local, provincial and national authorities have teamed up with ASML to fund the campus, with an eye on broader goals like talent pipelines, affordable housing and equal‑opportunity hiring in the Brainport ecosystem. The city of Eindhoven, in particular, has been highlighted as a key partner in turning the vision into reality.

When the first buildings go up, they’ll showcase a modern, sustainable design – think energy‑efficient façades, green roofs and smart‑grid integration. Inside, the clean‑room will be peppered with autonomous transport vehicles, digital twins of production lines, and AI‑driven quality checks, all aimed at keeping ASML’s legendary yield rates high.
