Alonso Sets His Sights on a Real Madrid Defender for Chelsea

When Xabi Alonso walked into the Chelsea dressing‑room for the first time, he didn’t just bring a fresh tactical notebook – he also came with a shopping list. One item on that list? A 28‑year‑old defender who’s currently on the books at Real Madrid.

The rumor mill, fed by a note from Bernabeu Digital, says the Blues have their scouts watching the Spanish giants’ defensive options. It’s not a headline‑grabbing name like Trent Alexander‑Arnold – though he’s also been mentioned – but rather a seasoned full‑back who has been rotating in and out of Mourinho’s side.

Alonso, who once cut the ribbon on his own playing career at Real, apparently knows the kind of experience that can steady a backline. “We need someone who’s comfortable under pressure, who can play out from the back and still defend stoutly,” he reportedly told the press. “If the right‑back becomes available, we’ll have a look.”

Chelsea’s interest is, of course, more than just a nod to nostalgia. The Blues have been scrambling for defensive depth after a shaky start to the season, and a player in his prime could slot straight into a back‑four that Alonso is keen to shape.

For now, everything remains speculative. Real Madrid haven’t confirmed any talks, and the player himself has stayed tight‑lipped. Still, the mere fact that the Chelsea hierarchy is monitoring the situation suggests a potential January move could be on the cards if the deal lines up.

Fans will be watching closely – not just for the transfer itself, but for what it says about Alonso’s vision for Chelsea. A seasoned Real Madrid defender could bring a touch of La Liga class to Stamford Bridge, and perhaps, in Alonso’s eyes, that’s exactly the missing piece.
