The Riverside County Department of Animal Services has documented a horrifying escalation, particularly in incidents involving cats.

From January 1, 2023, to February 20, 2024, at least 15 cats have been found dismembered or partially eaten by scavengers across the county, leading to widespread fear and outrage. This grim tally includes multiple cases where the animals were clearly subjected to intentional mutilation.

A particularly egregious incident involved 'Jett,' a kitten whose body was discovered dismembered in a park in Corona.

The trauma inflicted upon Jett was so severe that veterinarians concluded the injuries were not consistent with natural predatory attacks. This case, among others, underscores the sadistic nature of these crimes and the urgent need for intervention.

Animal Services Director Julie Bank expressed profound frustration and sorrow, highlighting the difficulty in prosecuting these cases due to a lack of witnesses or direct evidence.
