Acciona Secures Peru Green Light for Two Major Transmission Projects

Spain‑based infrastructure group Acciona just got the nod it needed from Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines – specifically the General Directorate of Environmental Affairs for Electricity (DGAAE). The agency has officially signed off on the Environmental Impact Assessments for two high‑voltage projects: the 220 kV Caclic‑Jaén Norte Link and the 220 kV Ica‑Poroma Link, along with the associated substations.

What does that mean on the ground? In plain terms, the Caclic‑Jaén line will reinforce the electricity grid serving the Cajamarca and Amazonas regions, with a special focus on the Bagua‑Jaén system. Roughly 180 km of new transmission line and a brand‑new substation at Jaén Norte are slated for construction, threading through small rural communities like Paclas, Dunia Chico, San Jerónimo, San Miguel de Chosgón and San Cristóbal de Olto.

The Ica‑Poroma project, meanwhile, is geared toward expanding capacity to absorb both existing and future generation – most of which is expected to come from non‑conventional renewables. This effort will add more than 100 km of 220 kV lines, reroute a pair of existing circuits (L‑2315/L‑2391), and upgrade the Ica and Poroma substations while adding a new Intermedia substation. The route cuts across the provinces of Ica, Nasca and Palpa, brushing close to villages such as Yauca de Cocharcas and Señor Luren.

Both initiatives are tied to a 30‑year concession that covers construction, operation and maintenance. Together, they are projected to serve roughly 370,000 residents in southern Peru, offering a more reliable supply and helping the region meet its growing energy appetite. The Ica‑Poroma line will also dovetail with the Punta Lomitas and Dunas power plants and pave the way for future extensions of the National Interconnected Electricity System (SEIN).

Acciona isn’t stopping there. Just last month, the firm – together with Aberdeen Investments under the Northway Consortium – sealed financing for New Zealand’s Warkworth‑to‑Te Hana highway. It’s clear the company is betting big on infrastructure that links people, power and progress.
