Calgary's vibrant Chinatown was bathed in a breathtaking glow this past Friday night, as thousands of colourful lanterns illuminated the streets, heralding a heartwarming celebration of culture and community. Families, friends, and visitors converged to partake in the cherished Lantern Festival, an event that not only honours ancestors but also weaves a beautiful tapestry of shared heritage and joy.

Organized by the dedicated Calgary Chinatown Business Improvement Area (BIA), this year's festival carried an extra layer of significance.

For many, it marked a long-awaited return to pre-pandemic festivities, offering a precious opportunity to reconnect, celebrate, and immerse themselves in the rich traditions that define the community. The air buzzed with excitement, carrying the scent of delicious street food and the murmur of happy conversations.

"It’s always important to highlight our culture, to share it with the community and to bring everyone together," shared Alice Lam, executive director of the Chinatown BIA.
