A Life Richly Lived: Remembering Lynn A. Miller

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Lynn A. Miller's peaceful passing on June 7, 2024. A cherished resident of Gurnee, Illinois, Lynn was 81 years young, and her absence leaves an undeniable void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She truly was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication, touching so many hearts throughout her remarkable journey.

Born in the bustling city of Chicago on November 23, 1942, Lynn was the beloved daughter of Robert and Mildred (nee Miller) DeGryse. Her formative years saw her graduate from St. Mary's High School in Chicago in 1960, a milestone that paved the way for a year of further studies at Carthage College. She always carried a piece of her Chicago roots with her, even as her life blossomed elsewhere.

Love found Lynn in David C. Miller, and the two were united in marriage on April 17, 1965, at St. Gabriel Church in Chicago. Their bond was truly special, a partnership that flourished for decades until David's passing in 2012. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three wonderful children: Cynthia (married to Bill Kappel), Christine (who married Michael White), and their son, Kevin Miller. Lynn's joy multiplied with each grandchild: Matthew (and his wife Kayla) Kappel, Lauren Kappel (fiancé Ryan Laatsch), Amanda White, Andrew White, and Ryan White. And just around the corner, a new generation was eagerly awaited, with Baby Kappel due to arrive this July – a bittersweet anticipation now, but a testament to the continuous thread of life she cherished. She loved her family fiercely, and her greatest happiness came from watching them grow.

Lynn dedicated over twenty-five years of her professional life as a diligent administrative assistant at St. Patrick's Parish in Wadsworth. Her work there was more than just a job; it was a calling, a place where her warm smile and efficient hand made a real difference every single day. Beyond her official duties, she poured her heart into the community. She was an active and beloved member of the St. Patrick's Ladies Guild, lent her support to the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and selflessly volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels. Her commitment to service was simply extraordinary, leaving an indelible mark on so many lives within Wadsworth and beyond.

Lynn's loving legacy continues through her dear sister, Kathy O'Connell, and Kathy's husband, Jim. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews who will surely miss her bright spirit. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David, her parents, Robert and Mildred, and her brother, Robert DeGryse, joining them now in eternal peace.

Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Lynn's life during a visitation on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, located at 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL. A Funeral Mass, honoring her memory, will be held the following day, Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM, also at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Lynn will be laid to rest at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL, where she will find her final resting place. The family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either St. Patrick's Church in Wadsworth or the dedicated Meals on Wheels program, organizations that were so close to Lynn's heart.
