A Life Lived Fully: Remembering John Michael Tanzine III

It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the passing of John Michael Tanzine III, who left us too soon on Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was just 62 years old and departed peacefully at his home in Brentwood, Tennessee. John was truly a remarkable man, a beacon of joy and dedication to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His vibrant spirit and loving heart will be profoundly missed.

John's journey began on January 12, 1962, in the bustling city of Buffalo, New York. He was the cherished son of the late John Michael Tanzine Jr. and Betty Jane Tanzine, who undoubtedly instilled in him the values that shaped his extraordinary life. Growing up in Buffalo, John graduated from Bishop Timon High School, where he likely honed the competitive edge and camaraderie that would define much of his future. He then pursued higher education at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, earning a degree in Marketing—a foundation that would serve him well throughout his impressive career.

His professional life was marked by a long and distinguished tenure in medical sales. A true expert in his field, John’s commitment and passion for helping others through his work were evident. In 1999, he and his family made the move to Franklin, Tennessee, where he joined Medtronic, continuing to make significant contributions. More recently, he had enjoyed a well-deserved retirement from Integra Life Sciences, a testament to years of hard work and dedication. But truly, his greatest successes weren't measured in sales figures; they were found in the relationships he built and the lives he touched.

Family, without a doubt, was John's world. He was the devoted husband to his beloved wife, Cathy Tanzine, a partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Their life together was a beautiful tapestry. He was also a proud and loving father to his children, Ryan (married to Alex) and Kaitlyn, guiding them with wisdom and encouragement. The joy in his life multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Adeline and Finn, who surely brought a special sparkle to his eyes. John embraced the role of "Papa" with every fiber of his being, cherishing every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Kim Hitzges, and her husband Larry, and his brother, Mark Tanzine, and his wife Ann, along with several adored nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Larry Jr., Lauren, and Taylor. These family bonds were incredibly important to him, a source of comfort and endless affection.

Beyond his professional and family life, John was a man of diverse passions. Anyone who knew him understood his deep love for golf – a game he played with skill and enthusiasm, no doubt enjoying the camaraderie as much as the challenge. And, oh, his sports teams! He was a die-hard fan of the Buffalo Bills, cheering them on with an unwavering loyalty that only a true fan possesses. The New York Yankees also held a special place in his heart. But above all else, John cherished spending quality time with his family and friends. These were the moments that truly mattered to him, creating memories that will now be treasured by all who shared them.

John Michael Tanzine III lived life fully, vibrantly, and with an open heart. He approached each day with a zest that was infectious, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. His memory will be a blessing, a reminder of a life well-lived, filled with purpose, love, and genuine connection. He truly embodied what it meant to be a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

A visitation to honor John’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin, Tennessee. A Funeral Mass, celebrating his spiritual journey, will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Franklin. Following the service, John will be laid to rest at Williamson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society, causes close to their hearts. May he rest in eternal peace.
