A Life Cut Short: 25-Year-Old Rider Killed in Callous Mumbai Hit-and-Run

Early Saturday morning, a 25-year-old man named Mohammad Nadeem Qureshi, who had so much life ahead of him, lost his battle for survival after being involved in a horrific hit-and-run incident. The tragic event unfolded on the Western Express Highway's service road, specifically on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) in Jogeshwari (East). Qureshi, a resident of Millat Nagar in Jogeshwari (West) and an employee at a private firm in Santacruz, was riding his Honda Activa scooter when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. The impact was severe, and the driver responsible didn't even stop, vanishing into the pre-dawn darkness.

It wasn't until around 6 AM that Qureshi was discovered, gravely injured and lying motionless on the roadside, by a tempo driver named Sanjay Singh. Mr. Singh, displaying commendable civic responsibility, immediately alerted the police, probably a moment of sheer panic and urgency. It's a sobering thought that without his intervention, the young man might have laid there even longer.

Officers from the Meghwadi police station promptly arrived at the scene, initiating what is now a full-blown investigation. They've registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 279 for rash driving and 304A for causing death by negligence, along with section 134 of the Motor Vehicle Act, which pertains to the duty of a driver in an accident. The priority now, of course, is to identify and apprehend the individual responsible. Police sources indicate they are diligently scanning CCTV footage from the area, hoping to piece together what happened and catch a glimpse of the culprit's vehicle.
