A Grand Reunion: Stolen Horse Dolly Back Home After Dramatic RCMP Recovery

In a heartwarming conclusion to a year-long saga, a beloved horse named Dolly has been triumphantly reunited with her rightful owner, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Alberta RCMP. This joyful outcome follows an extensive investigation into the mare's disappearance and a public appeal that ultimately led to her safe return and an arrest in the case.

The story began in March 2023 when Dolly, a cherished mare, was being boarded at a property in Leduc County.

According to police reports, when the horse's owner requested Dolly's return, the individual accused of boarding her allegedly refused to comply. What followed was a disturbing development: Dolly was reportedly moved from the property, prompting her owner to report her as stolen to the RCMP on March 29, 2023.

For over a year, Dolly's whereabouts remained a mystery, leaving her owner in a state of anxious uncertainty.

The RCMP's Leduc detachment launched a thorough investigation, but progress was challenging. In a strategic move to solicit public assistance, the RCMP issued a press release and shared information across social media platforms in March 2024, hoping that community vigilance would provide the crucial breakthrough needed.

And breakthrough it did.

The appeal resonated with the public, generating valuable tips that poured into the RCMP. These leads proved instrumental, guiding investigators to a specific property located in Maskwacis. On May 9, 2024, officers converged on the location, where, to the immense relief of all involved, Dolly was found safe and sound.

The reunion between Dolly and her owner was an emotional moment, marking the end of a long and trying ordeal.

Following Dolly's recovery, police proceeded with an arrest. Ashley Ann Knorr, a 37-year-old woman, was taken into custody. She has since been charged with theft of a horse. Knorr has been released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to make her first appearance in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on May 28, 2024, to face the allegations.
