A Flock of Wonders: Vizag Zoo Welcomes Six Exquisite New Species!

Visakhapatnam’s beloved Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) is buzzing with renewed excitement as it proudly announces the arrival of six captivating new animal species! This significant expansion of its diverse collection promises to enchant visitors and further solidify the zoo's commitment to biodiversity and conservation.

The new residents, a vibrant mix of birds and primates, are already settling into their new home, bringing fresh energy and unique attractions to the park.

Among the celebrated new arrivals are two elegant Black Swans, whose graceful presence will undoubtedly captivate onlookers with their striking dark plumage and regal bearing.

Joining them are two magnificent Ostriches, the world's largest birds, which will offer a truly impressive sight with their towering stature and powerful legs. Primate enthusiasts will be thrilled to meet the adorable Common Marmoset and the highly intelligent Ring-tailed Lemur, known for its distinctive striped tail and social antics.

Adding a splash of vibrant color and chatter are the stunning Green Wing Macaw and the famously eloquent African Grey Parrot, both renowned for their beauty and remarkable vocal abilities.

These fascinating creatures have joined the IGZP family as part of a strategic and beneficial animal exchange program with the prestigious Arignar Anna Zoological Park (Vandalur Zoo) in Chennai.

In a reciprocal gesture, the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park sent a selection of its own cherished residents to Vandalur.

This included several Spotted Deer, known for their elegant spots and gentle nature, along with Barking Deer, distinguished by their unique vocalizations, and a number of critically important Star Tortoises, contributing to the genetic health of Chennai’s reptile collection.

Under the diligent care of IGZP Director Nandani Salaria and her dedicated team, all the new animals are currently undergoing a period of observation and quarantine.

This crucial phase ensures their smooth adaptation to the new environment and allows veterinary experts to monitor their health closely. Reports indicate that the Black Swans, Ostriches, Common Marmosets, Ring-tailed Lemurs, Green Wing Macaws, and African Grey Parrots are all in excellent health and are gradually acclimatizing to their spacious new enclosures.
