A Family Shattered: Kemptville Car Fire Tragically Linked to Ottawa Murder-Suicide

What initially appeared to be a disturbing car fire in a Kemptville carpool lot has, with painstaking police work, unravelled into a far more devastating narrative: a suspected murder-suicide in Ottawa that has claimed the lives of a mother, her estranged partner, and their precious young daughter.

The first grim scene unfolded early Friday morning. Emergency crews were called to a car engulfed in flames at a carpool lot nestled near the Highway 416 exit in Kemptville. Once the fire was extinguished, a body was tragically discovered inside the vehicle. Investigators have since identified the individual found in that burning car as Krista Horton, a 37-year-old woman.

However, as the day progressed, the horror deepened. Later that same Friday, police responded to a residence on Cote des Neiges Drive in Ottawa. There, they made another devastating discovery: 51-year-old Mark Gibson and 12-year-old Leslie Gibson were found deceased inside the home. The Ottawa Police Major Crime Section, now leading this complex and somber investigation, quickly began to piece together the heart-wrenching connections.

And heartbreakingly, the connections didn't end there. It turns out Krista Horton was Leslie Gibson's mother and the estranged partner of Mark Gibson.
