A Chilling Night in Ballia: Birthday Celebration Ends in Tragic Murder, Police Under Fire

The celebration of a birthday turned into a night of unspeakable tragedy in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, as a 22-year-old man, Sachin Gupta, was brutally murdered while returning home. This shocking incident has not only plunged a family into profound grief but has also ignited public outrage, leading to the suspension of four police officers for alleged negligence and raising serious questions about the state of law and order.

Sachin Gupta, son of Surendra Gupta, had spent Saturday evening, September 21, 2024, at a friend's birthday party.

As he made his way back to Chandpur village under the Sikanderpur police station area, his path was tragically intercepted. According to initial reports and the family's heart-wrenching testimony, Sachin was ambushed and shot dead by a group of assailants.

The motive behind this heinous crime points to a long-standing enmity, specifically linked to a 'love affair'.

The victim's family, devastated by their loss, immediately pointed fingers at Sonu Yadav and his associates, alleging their involvement. An FIR was promptly lodged against nine individuals, including Sonu Yadav, Sanju Yadav, and Golu Yadav, at the Sikanderpur police station, with authorities initiating a manhunt for the absconding accused.

However, the tragedy took another turn as the grieving family accused the local police of inaction and even complicity.

Fueled by sorrow and a desperate plea for justice, they refused to allow Sachin's body to be taken for post-mortem, staging a powerful protest. The family blocked a major road, demanding immediate arrests and stringent action against the police personnel they believed were negligent.

The pressure mounted, leading to swift administrative action.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Devendra Nath, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the public's distress, announced the suspension of four police officials. Station House Officer (SHO) Brijesh Shukla, Sub-Inspectors Vinay Kumar and Ajit Kumar, along with constable Sunil Yadav, were relieved of their duties for alleged negligence in handling the case.

This move underscores the administration's attempt to address concerns about police accountability and ensure a fair investigation.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Durga Prasad Tiwari confirmed the details of the FIR and assured the public that multiple police teams had been deployed to apprehend the culprits.
