A Bright Future for Swift Current Comprehensive High: Major Renovation Project Kicks Off

It's official: the wheels are truly in motion for a monumental transformation at Swift Current Comprehensive High School. After much anticipation, the Saskatchewan government has formally opened the bidding process for the initial phase of what promises to be a comprehensive and long-overdue renovation project for the beloved educational institution.

For anyone connected to Swift Current, this is undoubtedly welcome news. The province, through SaskBuilds and Procurement, recently issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on August 14, 2026, inviting construction firms to put forward their best bids. Those interested parties have a few weeks to prepare their proposals, with the deadline set for September 3, 2026. It’s a pretty tight turnaround, but then again, there’s a lot of excitement to get this project moving!

The journey to this point has been a thoughtful one. The project itself was given the green light back in March 2024, wisely planned as a phased renovation. This ensures minimal disruption while maximizing efficiency. The first major chunk of funding, a generous $39 million for the overall major renovation, was actually secured within the 2025-26 provincial budget. And for this critical first phase alone? We’re looking at an estimated $14.6 million investment just for this year, specifically allocated to get the ball rolling.

So, what exactly does this crucial first phase entail? Well, it's all about getting to the heart of the building's functionality. Think about it: the very guts of the school are getting a complete overhaul. This includes a comprehensive rehabilitation of the mechanical and electrical systems – pretty vital stuff, as anyone who's dealt with an old building knows.
