A Big Chill Is Coming: Get Ready for Austin's Cold Snap!

Tonight, you'll definitely notice the clouds thickening up. Don't be surprised if you feel a little sprinkle here and there, especially after midnight, but honestly, we're not expecting much in terms of serious rain – just a hint of it, really. The big news for tonight, though, is that a cold front is set to sweep through, bringing with it a noticeable shift in the wind direction, straight out of the north. And with that, our temperatures are going to take a tumble, likely settling into the upper 30s by morning. Brrr!

Thursday is looking like a pretty classic winter day for us, meaning it'll be mostly cloudy and quite chilly all day long. We’ll be lucky if the mercury even climbs into the low to mid-40s. And yes, there’s still a chance for some very light drizzle, especially during the morning commute, so keep that in mind as you head out the door. It’s just going to feel damp and raw.

Now, Friday is where things get a touch more interesting, particularly for those living north and west of Austin. We're talking about a real possibility of freezing rain or drizzle during the early morning hours. This could absolutely make for some tricky, slick spots on the roads, so please, if you're in those areas, exercise extreme caution. For us right in Austin, it’s mostly just going to be incredibly cold with perhaps another round of light rain, thankfully not the freezing kind.

Good news is on the horizon, though, because the weekend promises a gradual, much-appreciated warm-up. Saturday, we should see highs climbing back into the 50s, which will feel like a heatwave after the cold snap. There might still be a few lingering rain chances on Saturday, but nothing too major. And by Sunday? We're looking at a lovely return to the 60s. Ah, that's more like it, isn't it?
