369 EV Charging Stations Planned in Telangana, Tariff Set at ₹13/kWh

On Monday, the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TG REDCO) rolled out the details of a massive rollout – 369 public electric‑vehicle charging stations across the state. The pre‑bid meetings covered everything from setting up new points to the nuts‑and‑bolts of operation, maintenance, upgrades and even commercial management.

Out of the total, 200 stations will sit inside the municipal limits of Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri, while the remaining 169 will be spread across the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad. It’s a clear sign that the government is trying to make EV charging convenient not just in the capital’s urban sprawl but also in the more remote corners.

The charging tariff has been locked in at ₹13 per unit, plus GST. According to the official press note, that price will hold steady for the entire ten‑year contract period, giving users a predictable cost structure as the market matures.

Private Charge Point Operators (CPOs) will be invited to submit bids. In Hyderabad, the selected CPOs will manage the day‑to‑day running of the chargers – they’ll handle everything from routine maintenance to any needed upgrades, with a contractual promise of at least 95 % uptime. In the five outer districts, the scope widens: the CPOs must also undertake site surveys, design, civil works, installation, testing and commissioning, besides the usual operational responsibilities.

To sweeten the deal, eligible bidders stand to receive a subsidy under the Prime Minister’s EV‑Mission scheme, subject to the usual terms and conditions. This financial push is meant to lower entry barriers and accelerate the rollout.

Telangana already ranks fourth in India for electricity consumption at EV charging stations, and the number of electric vehicles on its roads is climbing steadily. By anchoring a stable tariff and inviting private participation, the state hopes to keep pace with the growing demand while keeping charging affordable for everyday commuters.
