Years Later, Breakthrough in Montreal Shooting Case: Two Arrested, One Still Sought

It's been quite a waiting game, but finally, there's some real movement in a shooting case that shook Montreal's Parc-Extension neighbourhood back in 2022. Police announced this week that they've managed to apprehend two suspects, bringing a measure of closure – or at least progress – to a long-running investigation.

The incident in question dates back to a crisp autumn evening, October 28, 2022, to be exact. A man, then in his twenties, was shot in the upper body on Querbes Street, not far from Ogilvy Avenue. Thankfully, and somewhat miraculously given the circumstances, he survived the attack, which I'm sure was a huge relief for his loved ones.

Investigations into these kinds of serious crimes often take time, painstaking effort, and a lot of dedication from the officers involved. The SPVM's major crimes section has been diligently working on this case, patiently piecing together clues and chasing leads for well over a year now. It really speaks to their commitment, doesn't it?

Fast forward to this past Thursday, April 25, 2024, when police finally made their move. They arrested 26-year-old Jean-Marc St-Hubert and 25-year-old Jonathan Gatien in connection with the shooting. Both men have since appeared in court, facing some pretty serious charges, including attempted murder, discharging a firearm, and aggravated assault.

But here's the thing: while two suspects are now in custody, the police investigation isn't quite over. There's still a third individual they're actively looking for, someone believed to have played a role in that violent night. The SPVM is definitely not resting on its laurels and is continuing the hunt, urging anyone with information to come forward, as always.

It’s a stark reminder of the challenges police face in solving violent crime, but also a testament to their persistence. Hopefully, with the public's help, they'll soon be able to bring the final suspect to justice and fully close this chapter for the community.
