Just weeks ago, the conversation around Knoxville buzzed with possibilities.

Early season triumphs and a high national ranking had many predicting Tennessee's return to the elite tier of college football, with prestigious New Year's Six berths or at least a high-profile Citrus Bowl appearance seeming well within reach. This latest projection, however, serves as a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can shift in the ruthless world of SEC football.

The root of this precipitous slide can be traced directly to two painful Saturdays in November.

Consecutive losses to SEC rivals Missouri and Georgia not only deflated the Volunteers' undefeated record hopes but severely damaged their resume in the eyes of national prognosticators.
