Urgent Search Underway for Missing Grandfather and Grandson in North Cowichan

North Cowichan, B.C. – An urgent and widespread search continues in North Cowichan and Duncan as authorities, aided by dedicated volunteers, work tirelessly to locate a missing grandfather and his grandson. Seventy-nine-year-old William Fisher and his 15-year-old grandson, Robert Fisher, were last seen on Saturday afternoon, and concerns for their well-being are escalating.

The pair was last spotted on June 15, 2024, around 1:30 p.m.

in North Cowichan, embarking on what was believed to be a short trip towards Duncan. They were travelling in a distinctive green 1990 Ford Aerostar van, bearing B.C. licence plate LS700A. This vehicle has become a critical piece of information for the search teams.

William Fisher is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, with grey hair and blue eyes.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing blue jeans, a plaid shirt, and possibly a black baseball hat. A significant concern for searchers is that William may be experiencing disorientation, which adds a heightened sense of urgency to the operation.

His grandson, Robert Fisher, stands at about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.

He has dark brown hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing black pants, a black hoodie, and black shoes. Both individuals’ descriptions have been widely circulated among search teams and the public.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are spearheading the extensive search efforts, which have mobilized numerous resources.

Ground search and rescue teams have been deployed, meticulously combing through various terrains. They are supported by air operations, including a helicopter, providing an aerial perspective crucial for covering large and remote areas, particularly south of Duncan and around the Koksilah River.
