The MEA’s stark caution reveals a disturbing pattern: many Indians, lured by the promise of a better life, are arriving in Iran only to discover that the promised jobs either don't exist or are vastly different from what was advertised.

They are often left without employment, facing severe financial hardship, and in some horrific instances, forced into illegal activities or becoming victims of human trafficking. The agents involved frequently fail to verify the legitimacy of employers or even the existence of the supposed companies, leaving their victims in dire straits.

The Ministry underscores several critical red flags that potential job aspirants must be vigilant about.

These include agents demanding exorbitant sums of money, the issuance of fake employment visas, and the absence of legitimate work contracts. A common tactic involves tricking individuals into traveling on tourist or visitor visas, which are illegal for employment purposes and instantly put the individual at risk of legal complications and exploitation.

To safeguard themselves from such exploitation, Indian citizens are strongly advised to adhere to a stringent verification process.

This includes meticulously checking the authenticity of any job offer, the employer, and crucially, the recruiting agent. The MEA recommends cross-referencing all details with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and exclusively engaging with government-registered recruiting agents.
