Unrest Deepens in AJK: Government Alleges Terrorist Infiltration Amidst Protests

The air in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been thick with tension and turmoil recently, as protests, spearheaded by the now-proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), turned alarmingly violent. This all comes after the JAAC was officially declared a proscribed organization on June 5th, with a subsequent crackdown beginning the very next day. It seems the groundwork for this unrest had been laid much earlier. AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore alleged that the rioters had meticulously planned this violence for weeks, deliberately targeting security forces from strategically chosen vantage points. He made a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging them to steer clear of these agitators who, he stressed, were exploiting innocent civilians as human shields.
