Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru Development, has thrown his full weight behind the initiative, emphasizing its critical importance for the city's ecological balance and public well-being.

A significant focus will be on desilting the lake, a crucial step to deepen its bed and improve water holding capacity. Perhaps the most critical intervention involves the complete interception of sewage from entering the lake. BWSSB is tasked with constructing a dedicated sewage treatment plant (STP) at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore, ensuring that only treated water flows into the lake.

This monumental effort is projected to be completed within six to eight months, laying the groundwork for cleaner waters.

Beyond sewage interception, the project envisions a complete ecological overhaul. Plans include extensive de-weeding to remove invasive aquatic plants that choke the lake's ecosystem, followed by the installation of aerators to enhance oxygen levels, promoting a healthier environment for aquatic life.

The focus extends to fostering biodiversity, with initiatives aimed at reintroducing native flora and fauna, making Ulsoor Lake a sanctuary once again.

The revival isn't just about ecology; it's also about restoring Ulsoor Lake's role as a vibrant community hub. BBMP is charged with the extensive beautification and infrastructure upgrade components, estimated to cost Rs 70 crore and slated for completion within 1.5 to 2 years.

This includes the development of state-of-the-art promenades, lush landscaping, and improved lighting around the lake, creating inviting spaces for residents and tourists alike. Boating facilities are set to be enhanced, offering visitors a serene way to experience the revitalized waters. Furthermore, dedicated cycling and walking tracks will encourage healthier lifestyles and greater engagement with this natural treasure.
