When asked about the credentials of a former ICE officer who was being touted for a senior post, the man who once served as Donald Trump’s “border czar,” Bryan McAndrews, didn’t beat around the bush. He told reporters that the officer’s file had been "pored over" from top to bottom, and that nothing in the record raised any red flags.

“We look at every piece of paperwork, every performance review, every disciplinary action,” McAndrews said, leaning slightly forward as if to underscore the seriousness of the process. “If there’s a problem, it shows up. It doesn’t get swept under the rug.” The tone was calm but firm, a contrast to the often‑heated political chatter surrounding immigration enforcement.

Critics have argued that the Trump administration rushed appointments, placing individuals with questionable pasts into powerful roles. In response, McAndrews highlighted the multi‑layered checks that any candidate for a senior ICE or DHS position must clear: a federal background investigation, a security clearance, and a series of interviews with senior officials.
