Tragic Loss in Shahdara: 13‑Year‑Old Girl Takes Her Own Life After Family Scolds Her for Late Return

Delhi’s Shahdara neighbourhood was shaken early on Tuesday when police received a distress call about a teenage girl found unconscious on the floor of her home. The girl, just 13 years old, had apparently returned home later than expected and was then scolded by family members.

According to officers on the scene, the youngster was discovered hanging from a makeshift rope – a chunni tied to a ventilator. Her sister, who happened to be nearby, saw the grim sight and rushed to bring her down, but the girl was already unresponsive.

She hailed from Madhubani district in Bihar, having moved to Delhi with her parents some years ago. Neighbours said the family had a history of strict rules about curfew, and the argument that sparked this tragedy centered on the girl’s delayed return.

After being pulled down, the girl was hurried to Dr. Hedgewar Hospital. Doctors there declared her ‘brought dead’, confirming that she had succumbed to the injuries sustained during the attempt. The police have now opened a formal case and are collecting statements from family members and witnesses.
