Tragedy Strikes Zirakpur: Two Individuals, Each Grappling with Personal Woes, Found Deceased in Apparent Suicide Pact

A somber atmosphere enveloped the Saini Apartments on VIP Road in Zirakpur recently, following the tragic discovery of two individuals, a man and a woman, who reportedly ended their lives by suicide. The incident, which unfolded on the second floor of the residential complex, has left local authorities and residents grappling with the profound sadness surrounding the circumstances.

The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Baljinder Singh, a resident of Khanna who was reportedly undergoing divorce proceedings, and 35-year-old Jasbir Kaur from Balongi, who was childless.

Both were found hanging, a scene that deeply affected those who made the initial discovery and the police personnel who subsequently arrived.

The alarm was raised when Baljinder’s family, unable to establish contact with him, dispatched his cousin, Harjinder Singh, to check on his well-being.

Upon arriving at the flat, Harjinder found the door locked from the inside. Despite his attempts, there was no response, prompting him to immediately alert the Zirakpur police. Responding swiftly to the distress call, police arrived at the scene and, with no other option, were forced to break open the apartment door.

Inside, officers were met with the harrowing sight of Baljinder Singh and Jasbir Kaur, both of whom had tragically taken their own lives.

Initial investigations by the Zirakpur police revealed no suicide note at the scene, leaving the immediate motive shrouded in mystery. Authorities have registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, initiating inquest proceedings to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event.

Further details emerging from the preliminary inquiry suggest that Baljinder Singh had only recently moved into the flat where the incident occurred.

Jasbir Kaur, it was learned, had been residing with him for a few days prior to the tragic discovery. The families of both individuals have been informed, and their bodies were subsequently transported to the civil hospital in Dera Bassi for post-mortem examinations, a standard procedure in such cases to ascertain the exact cause and time of death.
