Tragedy Strikes Ganesh Immersion as a Tractor Cuts Through the Crowd in Dharmavaram

What began as a festive night of prayers and music at the Sivanagar Bramhamgari Temple turned into a nightmare when a tractor suddenly veered off a narrow lane and barreled into the gathering of devotees. The incident, which unfolded on September 18, 2026, left one child dead and seven others seriously wounded.

The victim has been identified as nine‑year‑old Varshita, whose parents are now grieving an unimaginable loss. Police say the driver, whose name has not been released, lost control of the vehicle as the crowd prepared for the Ganesh immersion procession. The tractor, reportedly loaded with farm equipment, crashed through the throng, crushing several people in its path.

Emergency services rushed to the scene. The injured were hurried to the nearby government hospital in Dharmavaram, where doctors worked through the night to stabilise them. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav ordered that the victims receive immediate, high‑quality medical care, and promised that the state would cover all treatment costs.

Harish Babu, the minister’s in‑charge for the Dharmavaram constituency, arrived at the hospital shortly after the tragedy, speaking with doctors and the families of the victims. He expressed his shock and assured them that the government would stand by them in this difficult time.

Police have taken the driver into custody and seized the tractor. A formal case has been registered, and investigators are probing how the vehicle could have entered a densely packed street during a religious event. The community, still reeling, is calling for stricter safety measures during future processions.

Meanwhile, Minister Yadav reached out personally to the bereaved family of Varshita, conveying his deepest condolences and pledging full governmental support.
