Tragedy Strikes Eluru: Woman Drowns, Man Missing as Relentless Rains Unleash Havoc on Andhra Pradesh

A somber atmosphere has enveloped parts of Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district following a tragic incident where a woman drowned and another individual went missing in a fiercely overflowing stream. The victim has been identified as Padala Vijayalakshmi, a 38-year-old resident whose life was tragically cut short near Kondai village in Kukunoor mandal.

Authorities and local residents have launched an intensive search operation for Pattem Gangadhar, 25, who was riding a motorcycle with Vijayalakshmi when they were both swept away by the powerful currents of the swollen stream.

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports, the duo was attempting to navigate the treacherous crossing over the stream when the overwhelming force of the water proved too much to overcome.

The motorcycle, along with its riders, was instantly engulfed and carried away by the deluge. Villagers, alerted by the unfolding disaster, quickly mobilized but could only retrieve Vijayalakshmi's body sometime later, a heartbreaking testament to the stream's unforgiving power. The search for Gangadhar continues tirelessly, with hopes dwindling as hours turn into days.

The Eluru district, particularly its low-lying areas, has been battered by continuous downpours, leading to a dramatic rise in water levels across numerous streams, rivulets, and irrigation canals.
