Tracy High School Football Coach Arrested Over Locker‑Room Recording

TRACY, Calif. – The atmosphere at Tracy High School turned tense last Friday when police escorted varsity football coach Jeffrey Pribble off campus. According to the Tracy Police Department, a group of students stumbled upon a cell‑phone that was actively recording them while they were changing in the boys’ locker room.

Those students, startled and understandably uneasy, hit the stop button, deleted the footage and promptly handed the device to a faculty member. From there, the story went straight to the police, who say the act fits the definition of a misdemeanor: using a concealed camera – in this case a phone – to secretly capture images of someone who is partially or fully undressed in a place where privacy is expected.

Pribble, who has been a part of the Tracy High football program since 2004 and took over as head coach in 2021, was cited on the spot but was not booked into the San Joaquin County Jail. He was processed at the station and released shortly after.

“It feels weird because I wasn’t there. I don’t have any more. So just hearing about something that could have affected me personally makes me kind of, like, wary about, you know, how other students are going to be affected by this,” said junior David Reyn oso, a student who asked to speak off the record. His comment captures the mix of shock and lingering unease that many students are feeling.

The Tracy Unified School District released a brief statement, emphasizing its “deep concern” and reaffirming a commitment to student safety. Coach Pribble has been placed on leave while the investigation continues, and district officials say they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Attempts to reach Pribble for comment – whether by email, phone or even a knock on his door – have so far been unsuccessful. The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office also noted it has not received any formal filings related to the case at this time.

As the community processes the news, parents, staff and students are left grappling with questions about privacy, trust, and how to move forward in a school environment that suddenly feels a little less secure.
