Toronto's Rainy Spell Breaks: What to Expect This Week

Phew! Good news for Toronto and much of southern Ontario: the special weather statement that had us all watching the skies has officially wrapped up. Environment Canada called it off just before 5:30 p.m. EDT on August 23rd. While that's certainly a relief, don't stash those umbrellas away just yet; our week ahead still promises a mix of conditions, a bit more rain, and even a lingering flood advisory for some.

Let's be honest, it's been a soggy one. Toronto has truly been put through the wringer all weekend, experiencing round after round of persistent showers and even some rather dramatic thunderstorms. For many of us, it felt like the sky just couldn't decide to stop crying, leaving the city feeling thoroughly soaked.

So, what's left for tonight, this very evening of August 23rd? Well, Environment Canada is predicting partly cloudy skies, with a roughly 30 percent chance of some lingering showers. There's even still a small risk of a thunderstorm rolling through, just to keep us on our toes. Looking ahead to Monday, August 24th, it seems we're in for another generally cloudy day, and yes, that 60 percent chance of showers means you'll likely need that rain gear. Temperatures should hover around a mild 20 degrees Celsius.

Beyond just the rain, there's an important heads-up from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, or TRCA. They issued a flood outlook watershed conditions statement on Sunday morning, and it's something we really need to pay attention to. With all the significant rainfall we've had, there's a higher potential for flooding from the TRCA river systems. What does that mean? Basically, our rivers could rise above their normal levels, and those currents could become stronger and faster for the next couple of days. So, for your safety, the TRCA is urging everyone to consider shorelines, rivers, and streams within their jurisdiction as potentially dangerous. It's just not the time to be near them, folks.

As we look towards Tuesday, August 25th, the forecast is finally promising the return of those lovely, sunny skies. It sounds almost too good to be true after such a dreary spell, doesn't it?
