Three Paths, One Campus: CT Triplets Embrace Individuality at UConn

Fairfield, CT – The Thompson household in Fairfield has always been a lively one, a symphony of three distinct personalities growing up side-by-side. Now, as Olivia, Ethan, and Sophia Thompson embark on their collegiate journeys, that symphony is about to get a whole new movement – all performed on the same stage: the University of Connecticut.

For their mother, Sarah Thompson, the mix of pride, excitement, and a touch of wistful reflection is palpable.

“It’s surreal, truly,” Sarah shares with a warm smile. “Raising triplets has been an incredible adventure, full of synchronized milestones and wildly divergent interests. To see them all head to UConn, yet each carving out their own unique academic path, really speaks to who they are. Now, it’s up to them.”

Olivia, with a natural inclination for problem-solving and a fascination with the human body, is diving into Biomedical Engineering.

Her sights are set on developing innovative medical technologies. “I’ve always been drawn to how things work, especially how we can improve health outcomes through design,” Olivia explains, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. “UConn’s engineering program is top-notch, and the opportunities for research are amazing.”

Ethan, the entrepreneurial spirit of the trio, is enrolling in the School of Business, with a focus on Management.

He envisions himself leading a dynamic startup one day. “I love the idea of building something from the ground up, understanding markets, and inspiring teams,” Ethan says confidently. “UConn’s business school has such a strong alumni network and practical experience programs that I know will be invaluable.”

Sophia, whose compassion and desire to help others have always shone brightly, is pursuing a degree in Nursing.

She dreams of working in pediatric care. “There’s nothing more rewarding than making a tangible difference in someone’s life, especially children,” Sophia states, her voice gentle yet firm. “UConn’s nursing program is highly respected, and I’m eager to learn the skills to provide the best care possible.”

The decision to attend the same university wasn't a pre-ordained pact, but rather a convergence of individual choices.

"We each applied to different schools, but UConn just felt right for all of us, for our own reasons," Olivia clarifies. Ethan adds, "It’s comforting to know we’re on the same campus, even if our daily routines will be completely different. There’s a built-in support system, but also the space to truly define ourselves."

Their journey to higher education has been a family affair, navigating three college applications, three financial aid packages, and three sets of dorm room essentials.

Sarah laughs, "Our car was definitely packed to the brim! But seeing their excitement, their readiness to embrace this next chapter, makes every moment worthwhile. It's a bittersweet transition, letting go a little, but knowing they're exactly where they're meant to be."
