The Chilling Allegations Against Indie Singer D4vd: A Deep Dive into the Murder Trial

Los Angeles is currently grappling with a truly unsettling case, as indie-pop artist David Anthony Burke, more famously known as D4vd, faces trial for some incredibly serious charges. He's pleaded not guilty, mind you, to murder, sexual abuse of a child, and even the mutilation of a body. At the heart of it all is the tragic death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a story that's only growing more grim as the proceedings unfold in a downtown L.A. courtroom.

What's really striking here, and what the prosecution is really trying to drive home, is the question of who, if anyone, knew about the alleged relationship between Burke and Celeste before she was killed. The picture painted by prosecutors is deeply disturbing. They allege that Burke, who was 18 at the time, and Celeste, then 13, began a sexual relationship. Fast forward to the night of April 23, 2025 – a date that will surely live in infamy for Celeste's family – and prosecutors claim she threatened to expose Burke. Apparently, she was feeling jealous about other relationships and allegedly told him she'd ruin his burgeoning career. Later that very night, they say, Burke sent a car to pick her up, and upon her arrival at his Hollywood home, he allegedly stabbed her to death. It’s a chilling sequence of events, to say the least.

And then, perhaps most disturbingly, comes the alleged aftermath. Prosecutors contend that Burke dismembered Celeste's body right there in the garage of his Hollywood residence. Imagine that scene. Her remains, they say, were then kept for weeks, possibly even months, in the front trunk of his Tesla. The body was only discovered some four and a half months later, in September, after the car itself was towed. You can almost feel the collective shiver that must have gone through the courtroom as these details were presented.

The court has heard from several Los Angeles Police Department criminalists, who've been detailing the forensic evidence. Lauren Wallace, for instance, testified about finding apparent blood stains and even slits on rubber mats in Burke's garage. Crucially, prosecutors stated that blood found there matched Celeste Rivas Hernandez's DNA. Wallace also mentioned finding possible blood evidence on garbage bags, cleaning wipes, and even a rowing machine in that same garage. However, it's worth noting she didn't find blood on two chainsaws Burke reportedly bought after the girl's death.

Later, Chelsea Murillo, another LAPD criminalist, spoke about discovering fewer, smaller, but similarly suspicious stains within the Tesla itself. It all adds up to a mountain of circumstantial, and in some cases, direct evidence. Detective Joshua Byers further corroborated this by testifying about finding a body bag containing a head and torso, alongside garbage bags filled with arms and legs, all inside the Tesla. Records, he noted, showed Burke had purchased the body bag, chainsaws, and other tools from Amazon.

It’s not just the items found, but also the ones missing. A third chainsaw Burke allegedly ordered, for example, has yet to be located. And the geographical scope of this case extends beyond Hollywood. Celeste's passport, incredibly, was found in January in a rural part of Santa Barbara County, about 95 miles northwest of Burke's home. Prosecutors have data, they say, showing Burke made two trips to that area—one on the very night of the killing, and another about six weeks later. It's a detail that adds another layer of premeditation, if true.

Burke’s attorney, Blair Berk, has certainly got her work cut out for her. Meanwhile, financial witnesses have testified that Burke's music career, between 2023 and 2025, brought in at least $10 million. While not directly tied to the murder, it hints at the significant stakes and the potential motive for keeping a secret quiet.
