Telangana Deluged: Rescuers Battle Raging Floods as Heavy Rains Pummel Warangal, Stranding Buses and Disrupting Life

A relentless deluge has brought life to a grinding halt across Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Kazipet regions of Telangana, as incessant rainfall pounded the districts from Monday night through Tuesday morning. The extraordinary downpour has transformed streets into raging rivers, inundated low-lying areas, and triggered a series of dramatic rescue operations.

The most harrowing incidents unfolded as two Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses found themselves trapped by the surging floodwaters, prompting urgent interventions from local authorities.

In a testament to the sheer power of the unyielding rain, one bus became marooned on the treacherous Parkal-Karkal road, caught in the grip of an overflowing Jafargadh stream. Approximately 20 passengers faced a terrifying ordeal before police and fire service personnel launched a swift and coordinated rescue, safely evacuating everyone aboard.

Just hours later, another TSRTC bus encountered a similar fate, becoming stranded near the Velair tank in Nekkonda mandal, situated along the vital Warangal-Khammam highway.

Fire service teams once again demonstrated incredible bravery and efficiency, navigating the dangerous waters to bring all passengers to safety, averting a potential catastrophe.

Beyond the stranded vehicles, the relentless rainfall has left a trail of widespread disruption. Roads vital for daily commute, including the Kazipet-Parkal stretch, have been swallowed by water, rendering them impassable.

Power outages have plunged numerous areas into darkness, exacerbating the challenges faced by residents. Adding to the distress, the agricultural sector has borne a significant brunt, with extensive damage reported to standing crops such as mango, maize, and paddy, threatening livelihoods across the region.

District Collector Sikta Patnaik has been at the forefront of the emergency response, closely monitoring the unfolding situation and directing relief efforts.

Authorities have issued stern warnings, urging citizens to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary and to exercise extreme caution, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone zones. The administration also highlighted the release of a staggering 5,142 cusecs of water from the Pakhal lake, a necessary measure illustrating the overwhelming volume of rainfall.

The severity of the downpour was underscored by meteorological data, with Velair registering a staggering 19.4 cm of rain, making it the hardest-hit area.

Narsampet and Nekkonda also experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall. As the skies remain grim and forecasts predict continued rain, the people of Warangal brace for further challenges, hoping for an abatement of the unprecedented monsoon fury.
