Streaming Ratings: ‘Young Sheldon,’ ‘Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Reap the Netflix Effect

Three weeks post its Netflix premiere, the show has risen to become the most viewed on US streaming platforms. Shifting its platform to Netflix has resulted in the show garnering its highest streaming week. Ranking second and third on Nielsen’s streaming chart for December 4-10, these two titles reflect Netflix's increasing dominance. Netflix and Max recorded 1.63 billion minutes of watching for the week, following a previous week recorded at 1.85 billion and a previous highest of 963 million. The prequel had not made it onto the charts prior to these three weeks (it was initially exclusive to Max), and it has swiftly eclipsed its preceding show in viewing time every week. The show registered 592 million minutes of watch time on Max from December 4-10. Equivalently, the film had a successful period on Peacock in the year, reaching a peak of 717 million minutes of viewing for its first week in late July and early August. After its visibility dropped in autumn, however, it escalated to 1.35 billion minutes of viewing for its first full week on Netflix. Netflix's film by Sam Esmail, , dominated the top spot in its first week, with 1.92 billion minutes of watch time. Despite a dip to 1.03 billion minutes after two weeks at over 1.4 billion, it still retained its place as the leading original series. YA breakout premiered with 673 million minutes of viewing on Netflix, securing third place on the original series list. Nielsen's ratings only cover the U.S viewing on television and exclude minutes viewed on personal computers or mobile gadgets. It only represents US viewership.
