Southern California's Weather Rollercoaster: Gusts and Showers Before the Sun Breaks Through

We're still bracing for a bit more wind and those pesky lingering showers before we can truly say goodbye to this current weather system and welcome some much-anticipated sunshine. We're talking serious Santa Ana winds, especially whipping through our mountain passes and out in the deserts. Peak gusts, particularly in places like the San Gabriel Mountains and those infamous passes, could easily hit 60 to 70 miles per hour. That's enough to make driving a real white-knuckle experience, especially for high-profile vehicles, and honestly, it could even lead to some power outages or downed tree branches. A high wind warning is actually in effect for several areas until later tonight, around 10 p.m., while wind advisories cover broader regions, extending a bit longer, so do keep an eye out for those.

And if you thought the rain had completely cleared, think again. While it's certainly not a major deluge, we're still seeing scattered, light showers making their way across parts of the region. Expect these little sprinkles, particularly near the coast and in our valleys, to pop up on and off throughout the day. It’s mostly nuisance rain, adding just a few hundredths of an inch here and there, but enough to keep the roads slick and remind us that spring weather can be quite unpredictable. These lingering wet conditions should thankfully start to fade away as we head into the evening, clearing up for what's to come.

But here’s the really good news, the light at the end of this blustery tunnel: a significant drying trend is firmly on its way! By tomorrow, Thursday, we should be seeing a much clearer sky, and the winds will finally begin to calm down considerably. This sets the stage beautifully for a simply gorgeous weekend, one we've all been hoping for, I'm sure.

Temperatures are set to rebound quite nicely, climbing into the 70s for many inland areas, and even the beaches will feel much more inviting.
