Parmeet Sethi's DDLJ Battle: How He Fought for Kuljeet and Won Hearts

The name Parmeet Sethi might instantly conjure images of the antagonist Kuljeet from the iconic Bollywood film 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (DDLJ). Yet, behind this memorable performance lies a compelling tale of struggle, rejection, and unwavering determination. Sethi recently opened up about the emotional rollercoaster he endured to land the role that would etch him into cinematic history, revealing a journey far more dramatic than many fans ever knew.

In a candid revelation, Sethi shared the profound devastation he felt when he discovered that director Aditya Chopra had initially cast another actor for the role of Kuljeet.

"I was told I was doing the film, and then suddenly, another actor was cast. I was completely heartbroken," Sethi recounted. The blow was particularly heavy because he had been actively involved in the film's early stages, having read the script and even rehearsed his lines. The thought of losing such a pivotal opportunity left him feeling utterly "devastated."

But Sethi wasn't one to give up easily.

Fuelled by a passionate belief that he was the right fit for Kuljeet, he took matters into his own hands. He made a heartfelt plea to Aditya Chopra, asking for just one more chance. Chopra, while acknowledging Sethi's disappointment, explained that the other actor had already been finalized and that he was even contemplating an open audition for other roles.

However, Sethi's persistence paid off. He managed to convince Aditya to let him read the lines for the role of Kuljeet one last time, purely as a show of good faith.

The turning point arrived during this reading. As Sethi delivered the lines, his conviction and understanding of the character shone through.

Aditya Chopra was visibly impressed, but the ultimate approval came from the legendary Yash Chopra, Aditya's father. Yash Chopra, who was also present, was captivated by Sethi's performance. "Yash ji heard me and immediately said, 'He is my Kuljeet,'" Sethi recalled, the relief palpable even years later.

This powerful endorsement changed everything, securing him the role he had fought so hard for.
