It was late afternoon, around 5:30 PM, when the trio decided to take a refreshing dip in the Arabian Sea. Like many beachgoers, they opted to secure their belongings – a common, yet sometimes risky, practice – by leaving them tucked away inside their Hyundai i20 car. They probably thought it would be safe, just for a little while, while they enjoyed the water. Little did they know, their vehicle was being watched, targeted by opportunistic thieves.

Upon their return, the heart-stopping moment: a shattered car window. You can just imagine the gut-wrenching realization that set in. The thieves had made quick work of it, helping themselves to a trove of personal effects. Among the stolen items were three precious mobile phones, collectively valued at a hefty Rs 1.5 lakh. Add to that Rs 15,000 in cash, two watches worth another Rs 1.5 lakh, and various other crucial documents like debit and credit cards, identity cards, and their bags. The total estimated loss? A staggering Rs 3.33 lakh. It’s not just the monetary value; it’s the profound sense of violation and the sheer inconvenience of replacing everything.

Understandably shaken, the tourists wasted no time in reporting the incident to the authorities. The Panambur police promptly registered a case, initiating an investigation under Sections 379 (theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code. Local law enforcement consistently advises visitors to exercise extreme caution. Leaving valuables in unattended vehicles, even for a short swim, presents an irresistible temptation for criminals. While the investigation continues, this unfortunate episode serves as a stark warning to all who flock to the beaches: enjoy the sun and sand, but please, keep your eyes on your belongings or, better yet, avoid bringing anything truly valuable that could spoil your day.
