The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a significant alert, forecasting an impending deluge for parts of Odisha and West Bengal as a potent low-pressure area gathers strength over the Bay of Bengal. The latest bulletin from the IMD reveals that a well-marked low-pressure area, currently situated over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha, is the culprit.

This system is not static; it's predicted to track northwestward, setting the stage for widespread downpours across the eastern coast of India over the next 48 to 72 hours.

For Odisha, the forecast is particularly grim, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall anticipated in various districts. Residents in areas like Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, and Kendrapada should prepare for challenging conditions.

Consequently, the IMD has issued a stern warning to fishermen: do not venture into the Bay of Bengal for the foreseeable future, specifically until the system weakens and conditions improve. Those already at sea are strongly advised to return to shore immediately.
