In a move that caught a few fans off guard, New Zealand’s versatile batsman Mark Chapman announced he is shifting to a “casual contract” with New Zealand Cricket for the 2026‑27 season. The primary reason? A chance to line‑up for a stint in Australia’s Big Bash League, a tournament that many players see as both a money‑maker and a platform to sharpen limited‑overs skills.
