Major Blow to Illicit Operations: Police Seize 274 kg Anna Bhagya Rice in Mangaluru

In a significant crackdown against the illegal diversion of public welfare resources, Mangaluru police successfully intercepted a large consignment of rice intended for the Anna Bhagya scheme. The meticulously executed operation led to the seizure of 274 kilograms of rice, being illicitly transported in an auto-rickshaw.

The incident unfolded on Monday night when vigilant officers from the Mangaluru Rural Police Station set up a checkpost near Neermarga Padavu.

Their suspicion was aroused by an auto-rickshaw attempting to evade scrutiny. Upon stopping and inspecting the vehicle, police discovered seven large bags filled with rice.

Further investigation confirmed that the rice, weighing a substantial 274 kg, was part of the Anna Bhagya scheme, a crucial government initiative designed to provide food security to the economically vulnerable.

This scheme plays a vital role in ensuring access to staple food for countless families across Karnataka.

The driver of the auto-rickshaw, along with another individual found with the consignment, was immediately apprehended by the police. The illicit nature of the transport, clearly aimed at diverting the subsidized food grains from their rightful beneficiaries, prompted swift legal action.

An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Mangaluru Rural Police Station, and a comprehensive investigation is now underway.
